OVERVIEW: Clean fuels for transport from agro-forestry waste. RESTOENE-2-CM, S2013/MAE-2882

This project, which is the logical continuation of the previous program RESTOENE funded by the CM, proposes a strategy with multidisciplinary approach attractive use of agro-forestry waste in order to produce clean automotive fuel (with a net impact very low emission of CO2). It's an interesting alternative in the community of Madrid, given the importance of the transport sector and the large volume of agro-forestry waste generated. To achieve this goal have the potential and ability to scientific-technical of five research groups of the community of Madrid (ICP-CSIC, CIEMAT, URJC, IMDEA Energy y UAM) whose competences, experiences and scientific infrastructures are appropriate and complementary to the development of a program of R+D activities on the production of synthetic fuels through the use of waste materials. Also include the participation of Repsol, Exide Technologies, Abengoa Bioenergía and Ibercat SL as companies associated with the programme of activities, which implies having the collaboration of companies positioned in the energy sector. The technologies proposed for the development of this project include: fractionation of lignocellulosic, catalytic pyrolysis, chemical and enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose and hemicellulose material, fermentation of sugars to bioethanol production, thermal and catalytic processes of conversion of biomass to obtain "biooils", fotoreformado of bioethanol, deoxygenation of pyrolysis products, use of bioethanol and hydrogen in fuel cells. The teams participating in this project have accredited solvency and complementary experiences in the development of R+D activities related to energy and biofuels. Hopefully, causing an important synergy resulting from the implementation in common approaches and different lenses. To this must be added the fact that the proposed project has a scope much broader than a mere R+D project insofar as it provides for a series of training and mobility of researchers, connection and collaboration with other international groups, as well as the dissemination of activities to the scientific community, the productive sector and society in general.
